Beach Park man dies after SUV crashes into ravine

A 90-year-old Beach Park man died after his SUV crashed into a ravine early Wednesday morning.

About 6:45 a.m., Lake County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 10300 block of West Fairbanks Avenue in Beach Park. Deputies found a 2020 Kia SUV in a ravine about 50 to 75 feet from the road, authorities said.

Deputies found the man, whose name was not released, submerged and unconscious in water about 150 feet from his SUV. The man was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's police said it looked as if the man walked away from his SUV.

The sheriff's office determined some neighbors heard loud noises around 11 p.m. Tuesday, which could have been the sound of the Kia driving into the ravine. The crash remains under investigation.
