Letter: Finding a love for newspapers

My husband has been the one who usually reads the newspaper. Recently, I find myself reading whole pages and entire articles.

I realize I like:

1. It's quiet. No one pops up and starts talking to me. Nothing requires me to "x out" of something to see the whole page.

2. I get both sides of the story without spiraling down an algorithm that gives me only what I want to see.

3. I can read opinions in the letters to the editor without getting an adrenaline surge like the kind that attack me when listening to campaign ads.

4. Topics are covered in much more depth than TV news, which give you 60 seconds at the most.

I feel "dumbed down" to when they tell you what's coming in sensational terms so you continue to watch through the advertisements. The broadcaster introduces the segment giving the same information. Then the correspondent tells you pretty much the same thing.

That's why I love the written word.
