Baseball: Stitt lifts Palatine with walk-off single; Buffalo Grove tops Highland

Palatine's baseball team executed perfectly in crunchtime and the result was a 2-1 victory over visiting South Elgin on Thursday.

With the game tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, Max Myszka drew a leadoff walk. Luke Stoffel bunted his teammate to second base and Josh Stitt produced a walk-off line drive single to right to score Myszka for the dramatic win.

Joshua Rivera went the first five innings, striking out six and allowing 2 hits before winning pitcher TJ Skelnick did not allow a hit in the final two innings, striking out two.

Stoffel went 2-for-3 while Stitt, Brent Penrose, Jake Andersen, Jack Betz and Myszka had the other 5 hits for Palatine.

Penrose also had the first RBI for Palatine when it took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Buffalo Grove 15, Highland, (OH) 6: Seniors Zack Fricke (3-for-5, 2 run) and Mac Camardo (2-for-4, triple, double, 2 runs) were multiple hitters for the Bison, who broke a 5-5 tie with 4 runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Carter Gledhill and TJ Constertina each had doubles for the Bison who completed their Florida trip and will face Evanston on Monday.

Winning pitcher Matt Brunelli entered in the second inning and went 3⅓ innings, striking out three and giving up 1 earned run.

Hoffman splits: Hoffman Estates won the opener 10-3 and then fell 9-0 to Crossroads Christian.

Jack Kliver pitched the first four innings for Hoffman in Game 1, striking out four and giving up 1 hit.

Leading the Hawks' offense were Josh Magers (2-for-3, 3 runs), Adam Burks (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Logan Willis (2-for-3, double, 3 RBI) and Richie Banas (2-for-4, double, RBI). Tom Curcio and Kliver also had doubles. Magers also pitched 1⅔ innings with 2 strikeouts and no hits.

Justin Morrissey had the Hawks' only hit in Game 2.

Plainfield East 2, Elk Grove 0: Nick Hoffman went all six inning for the Grenadiers, tossing a 5-hitter with 1 strikeout and 2 walks in the tough nonconference loss.

Plainfield East pitcher Andrew Hoffman struck out 14 while tossing a 4-hitter. Elk Grove had hits from Matt Crimmins, Josh Periaswamy, Shane Crimmins, and Ryne Singsank.

Hinsdale Central 5, Conant 2: Conant received doubles from Tyler Hedman, Christian Seegers and Mason Sykes in the nonconference game.
