Coronavirus: Doctors to answer 'Is It Worth the Panic'? at Naperville mosque

The Islamic Center of Naperville is set to host a free event Friday called "Is It Worth The Panic?: What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus Outbreak."

The event is scheduled for 9 to 9:45 p.m. at the mosque at 2844 W. Ogden Ave. in Naperville.

Drs. Atif Fakhruddin and Usman Khan are set to present basic facts about how to stay healthy and decrease the spread of the virus during the event, which will be streamed live on the Islamic Center of Naperville's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/IslamicCenterOfNaperville/.

The discussion is free and open to the public.

Drs. Fakhruddin and Khan are both kidney specialists who run a free, twice-monthly clinic at the Islamic Center. Fakhruddin said he has been hearing confusion about proper coronavirus precautions and seeing worried posts on social media. Hosting the discussion Friday, he said, will be a way to educate about preventive measures such as hand-washing, avoiding close contact with others and staying home when feeling sick.

The Islamic Center, however, has decided to postpone its Open Mosque Day, which had been set for Sunday, April 19. The annual event includes tours of the mosque, presentations about the Islamic faith, a chance to meet the mosque's Imam, or spiritual leader, as well as calligraphy, henna and food.

The Islamic Center plans to reschedule the event.
