Mundelein's 2023 Leaf Collection Program Begins Oct. 23

Mundelein's curbside leaf collection program, coordinated by Groot Industries, begins the week of Oct. 23 and continues through the second week of December. Leaf collection is NOT scheduled for a particular weekday nor does leaf collection take place on residents' normal garbage collection day.

PLEASE NOTE: Leaf collection is highly dependent upon the weather. Snow and freezing temperatures can significantly delay or halt leaf collection. In addition to weather, volume of leaves impacts the schedule. During peak collection (November), it can take two weeks to complete a round through town and longer if weather is poor.

Leaves must be curbside no later than Dec. 9 to ensure Groot can collect them during their last pick-up round through town. Once Groot begins their last round, they will not go back. As stated above, leaf collection does not typically occur on your regular garbage day.

Here are a few important reminders to help Groot facilitate a smooth and successful leaf collection process:

• Remember to rake leaves to the curb and NOT into the street. Leaves raked into the street may not be collected and can negatively impact street sweeping, traffic flow, and safety.

• Do NOT mix limbs, brush, stone, or other debris into the leaf piles.

• Avoid placing leaf piles near storm drains.

• Pile leaves away from parked cars or low hanging tree limbs.

• Leaves must be accessible with no vehicles/objects blocking the curb or edge of the road within 12 ft. of either side of the leaf pile.

• Leaf piles should be no larger than 5 ft. wide and placed no more than 3 ft. behind the curb

Happy Fall, Mundelein! We appreciate your patience!
