Fire damages Knollwood business, no injuries reported
No injuries were reported after fire broke out early Sunday at a two-story structure in unincorporated Knollwood area of Lake County, fire officials said.
The Lake Forest and Lake Bluff firefighters dispatched at 2:20 a.m. to the business on Route 176 arrived for find heavy flames and smoke coming from the second floor and roof of the building. The fire was knocked down by defensive operations and crews were able to safely enter the structure and fully extinguish the remaining fire, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary estimates put the damage at $400,000, officials said.
Lake Forest and Lake Bluff firefighters were assisted at the scene by the North Chicago, Highland Park, Libertyville, Mundelein, Northbrook, Countryside, Zion, and Lincolnshire fire departments. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department and the Newport and Deerfield fire protection districts sent equipment to cover other calls in Lake Forest during the fire.
