Accosting citizen in park is just tip of iceberg

Every picture tells a story, don't it

I thought about a reason not to write this letter, but the truth is, the man who recently yelled at a woman for her choice of a cultural garment is just the tip of an unnerving social iceberg that must be stopped.

The man may have been drunk, but he's probably not that much smarter sober. Everything about this incident tells me a woman (an American woman) was attempting to enjoy a peaceful, sunny afternoon at a birthday party (an American birthday party) in the forest preserve at a pavilion she rented, when a slovenly idiot barged into her domain and yelled things from the bottom of his bottle, therefore, putting himself in jail with his big mouth and demented brain. What the forest preserve officer did was not exactly right, but that's Cook County's problem.

Still, without granting her sainthood, I would like to commend the woman's calm manner and clear thinking. Not only does she have an absolute right to wear whatever the heck she wants, her shirt was neither offensive nor out of the ordinary. What was offensive and out of the ordinary was the inebriated man who cannot come to terms with his lack of understanding for diversity and decency.

Ten years ago, this might have only happened elsewhere. But with the political clout these brazen dotards feel they've gained from the words and actions used by the one-term guy in the White House, it will happen here until we stop it.

Maybe if Mr. Citizen had stayed awake in history class, he wouldn't have been in the predicament he's in.
