Palatine group offers free online criminal justice event

The League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area is offering a free online event Thursday titled "Criminal Justice Issues: Sentencing and Incarceration" that will be open to the public.

The presentation will be given by David Olson, associate professor in criminal justice and criminology at Loyola University Chicago, where he is also co-director of the Center for Criminal Justice Research, Policy and Practice.

Olson will discuss how sentencing practices have affected the state's prison population and will review policy recommendations and changes that have been made to safely reduce the size of the prison population.

The event is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. To register, visit the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area website and click on "calendar" at lwvpalatinearea.org/calendar.html.
