Endorsements: Eugene Wesley, Roy Wesley for Wood Dale City Council

Ward 2: Roy Wesley is a golf course superintendent and owner of Roy's Lawn Service in Wood Dale, where he is seeking his third term on the City Council. A 39-year resident, Wesley also has served on the Wood Dale Fire Protection District and the city's plan commission.

Wesley seems to have a good grasp on the issues that likely matter to city residents: O'Hare Airport noise, stormwater management, traffic and improving the business climate along Irving Park Road. He touts his experience as a local business owner as a plus for helping the city improve its business climate.

Wesley's opponent is William Milano, an operations manager with the Illinois Department of transportation. He says his IDOT experience has made him, in essence, a public servant who works well with people and is responsive to their needs and concerns. Milano strikes us a sincere, informed candidate, but he did not fill out a candidate questionnaire and he was available for an endorsement interview only very late in the process. He highlights many of the same issues - O'Hare noise, stormwater, the Irving Park corridor - but does not make a compelling case for why Wesley should be replaced. Wesley is endorsed.

Ward 4: Eugene Wesley, Roy Wesley's brother, is looking for a fourth term on the Wood Dale City Council. He is a manager of perishables for Jewel Food Stores. He has served on the city's soundproofing committee, and helped to secure soundproofing for 300 homes. Wesley also says he traveled to Springfield to help secure the city's low-interest loan for an overhaul of the city's wastewater treatment plant. He's a supporter of body cameras for police. He also touts his civic involvement, including taking vacation time to help run the city's major festival, Prairie Fest. His opponent, Joseph Petrella, declined to participate in the Daily Herald's endorsement process. Eugene Wesley is endorsed.
