Arlington Heights police: Credit card stolen, used at Target

Arlington Heights police released video surveillance images Thursday of a couple suspected of stealing a person's credit card and using it to buy items at Target.

About noon on Feb. 19, a female suspect was observed on video removing a wallet from the purse of someone eating lunch at Panera Bread, 5 W. Rand Road, police said. The female suspect and her male accomplice left immediately, and about 15 minutes later, the man was spotted at the Target store at 1700 E. Rand Road making purchases, according to a police department crime alert.

The man left in a vehicle, possibly a Chrysler 200, according to video footage obtained by authorities.

About 1:15 p.m., the suspects tried to make additional purchases using the credit card at another Target - this one at 130 S. Mannheim Road in Hillside - but they were unable to use the card, police said.

Police released surveillance images of the suspects in hopes the public could help identify them and issued a warning.

"When eating out, please take care to secure your purse. Do not hang it over the back of your chair or leave it unattended. Thieves will steal your wallet then use your credit cards," the department's crime alert stated.

Those with information are asked to call Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-STOP or text the keyword 847AHPD to 847411. Tipsters are guaranteed anonymity and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
