Aurora firefighters host 15th annual Turkey Bowl
About 40 off-duty Aurora firefighters became amateur football players on Thanksgiving morning.
The Aurora Fire Department held its 15th annual Turkey Bowl, a flag-football game, Nov. 23 at Hupp Park in Aurora.
Squads of second- and third-shift firefighters battled in the contest dubbed the "The Battle of Brovember."
The third-shift team won 12-7. The winners claimed a trophy and the mustache of Shane Cummings, second-shift team quarterback, which was shaved on the field by Mike Donato.
Officiating were Aurora Fire Chief Gary Krienitz and Dan Osman, central station battalion chief.
Refreshments for athletes, friends and relatives closed the event.
