Pedestrian struck by Metra train, killed in Downers Grove

A pedestrian was hit by a train and killed Friday evening in Downers Grove, officials said.

Police responded just before 7 p.m. to the area at Highland Avenue and the BNSF tracks, according to a news release from the Downers Grove Police Department.

A person had been seen walking on the tracks near Highland and was hit by a westbound Metra train, the release stated. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's family has requested that their identity not be released.
