Car owner Hardy starts final DuQuoin race after 64 years

DUQUOIN, Ill. (AP) - A Decatur stock car owner will start his final Ted Horn 100 race at the DuQuoin State Fair after 64 years in racing.

Dave Hardy's cars won back-to-back championships on the "Magic Mile" in DuQuoin in 2014 and 2015 behind driver Shane Cockrum of Benton.

Hardy first found U.S. Auto Club Stock Car success at DuQuoin in the early 1980s with two near victories. He and his two sons formed Hardy Boys Racing and re-entered USAC competition in 2011.

In addition to two checkered flags, Hardy's teams at DuQuoin have racked up six top five finishes, five top ten finishes and led for 74 laps.

Practice for the 71st Ted Horn 100 begins at 5 p.m. Sunday with the race starting about 8 p.m.
