Be a citizen scientist at CFC's Backyard Bird Count

The 22nd annual Great Backyard Bird Count, sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, will take place Feb. 15-18.

Citizens for Conservation will offer a special birdwatching session from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Citizens for Conservation's headquarters, 459 W. Hwy. 22, Lake Barrington. Participants can birdwatch and learn more about local birds and how to attract them to their own yards.

Citizens for Conservation members attend without charge; nonmembers are $5 per person. Registration is available at cfc@citizensforconservation.org or by calling (847) 382-7283.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a free and fun event that lets bird watchers help create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Participants can count birds for as little as 15 minutes per day during the four-day event, and report their sightings online at birdcount.org.

The reports help Cornell Lab and Audubon researchers learn more about birds and how to protect them. In 2018, more than 160,000 people participated in the event.
