Senior Suburban Orchestra to host Nov. 13 concert
The Senior Suburban Orchestra has scheduled a free concert for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5739 Dunham Road in Downers Grove.
The program will acknowledge the Illinois Bicentennial by featuring pieces by two Illinois composers: Adolf Weidig's "Trauer" from "Drei Episoden," op. 38 and Felix Borowski's "La FĂȘte" from "Peintures" ("Paintings" for Orchestra).
The program also includes selections from the musical, "Chicago," and "Over There," a medley of songs in honor of the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I which the audience will be invited to sing along with the orchestra.
The Senior Suburban Orchestra, awarded the 2018 Community Relations Orchestra by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, is conducted by Dan Pasquale D'Andrea. It was founded in 2000 and has grown to become a 45-piece performing organization, which presents more than 15 concerts per year. Most concerts are by invitation at retirement homes, schools and other civic venues.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations are appreciated.
