AIG announces 70 more layoffs from Springfield facility

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - AIG American General has notified state officials it will lay off 70 more jobs at a Springfield Service Center.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/2cAv1qi ) the notice filed with the Illinois Department of Employment Security did not give a reason for the cuts.

The insurance company announced plans in 2012 to consolidate offices nationally.

AIG's notice indicated it laid off 13 workers on Aug. 26 and will dismiss the remainder in three phases through Dec. 15.

Bob Gough is spokesman for the Department of Employment Security. He says agency staff members discussed job training and unemployment benefits with about 40 AIG workers last month.

AIG moved out of the former Franklin Life Insurance complex in downtown Springfield in 2007. It now houses the Illinois State Police.
