Barrington Community Band kicks off new downtown concert series

Barrington will launch an old-fashioned community band Concert in the Park series Thursday, at Memorial Park in the village's downtown, weather permitting.

The Barrington Community Band is scheduled to open the new, free series across the street from Hough Street Elementary School. A decision in whether the concert will go as planned will be made earlier in the day Thursday, officials say.

All concerts will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month in June, July and August.

Concertgoers will get to avail themselves of a popcorn machine in the park and may bring lawn chairs. The North Shore Concert Band is scheduled for July and the Great Lakes Naval Band is set for August.
