Letter: Campaigns and privacy

I just received an unsolicited text message from a Benny White volunteer, touting the Daily Herald's endorsement and asking for support. I find it disconcerting that a sitting council member and mayoral candidate would have access to a phone number that I have never shared with any political group. Not only do I wonder how they obtained my number but I wonder about privacy issues moving forward. Did they buy my number for the campaign? Did they obtain my number from city records? Is my number in danger of being sold for future campaigns? I have enough privacy concerns with Big Tech without having to worry about my elected officials.
