Adopt-A-Hydrant program in Palatine
The Palatine Fire Department is asking residents, business owners and community groups to sign up for its "Adopt-A-Hydrant" program during the winter months.
Heavy snowfall makes finding and accessing fire hydrants very difficult for firefighters, and every second counts during emergencies. Those who participate in the "Adopt-A-Hydrant" program are in charge of keeping hydrants clear of snow, which should be removed about three feet in all directions with a pathway cleared between the hydrant and the roadway.
Participants should be cautious while shoveling, not stand in the street and be careful not to slip and fall.
For more information and to sign up, visit palatine.il.us and put "hydrant" in the search box.
