Maine 207 hires principal for Maine South High School

Maine Township District 207 has hired an assistant principal from within the district for a job as principal at Maine South High School.

The school board Monday approved promoting Ben Collins, an assistant principal at Maine West High School since 2014.

Collins will replace Shawn Messmer, who was hired as an assistant superintendent in the district.

Both promotions will become effective July 1.

Collins was a unanimous selection from a field of 40 candidates, Superintendent Ken Wallace said.

"Ben has deep knowledge of instruction, evaluation and coaching, and he has helped us improve in all of those areas over the past three years," Wallace said in a news release.

Collins' salary will increase to $156,000 from $126,000.
