Body recovered after car plunges into Kankakee River

KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) - The body of a 42-year-old Kankakee man has been recovered from inside a car that plunged into the Kankakee River over the weekend.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2arPLOR ) Michael M. Howard was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon. Authorities haven't determined exactly when the car went into the river, but emergency crews responded to a call that came in Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police investigator David Verkler says there is no indication the driver tried to stop before the crash. Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner says Howard was wearing a seat belt.
