Letter: A proven leader

Jim Zay is a leader we need to keep on the County Board in District 6. He has a proven record of helping and improving our communities.

Jim was the leading force behind securing $12 million to build the Armstrong Park Reservoir, which helps divert 37 million gallons of rain water away from the homes in the neighborhood. The reservoir also included multiuse paths and environmental benefits helping clean the water before it returns to Klein Creek.

This is just one example of the dozens of projects he has completed in Carol Stream, Bartlett, West Chicago, Hanover Park, Warrenville and Winfield to stop flooding.

In addition, I serve with Jim on the DuPage Water Commission; Jim led the efforts to reform the commission, cut the budget and pay off $120 million of debt. These days it is unheard-of for a government agency to be debt free but Jim did it.

He has also loaned $25 million to Bartlett so they could construct the project to receive Lake Michigan water. I know he works with local park district, fire districts, school districts and townships to receive county funding for important projects that help us all. This is why the DuPage Mayors and Managers awarded him their 2019 Intergovernmental Cooperation Award for his work for our communities.

Please join me in voting for Jim Zay, his proven record and commitment to protecting our neighborhoods is needed now more than ever on the county board.

Frank Saverino, Mayor

Carol Stream
