Baseball: Aurora CC wins again
Johnny Belskis, Patrick Flanagan and Alex Rakas each drove in runs Saturday as Aurora Central Catholic's baseball team defeated East Aurora 5-3 in a nonconference game.
Jimmy Laurenti went 4 innings allowing 5 hits with 5 strikeouts to pick up the win for the Chargers (2-0). Kyle Czerak nailed down the save.
Harvest Christian 10, Ottawa Marquette 6: In downstate Jacksonville, Zach Pawelek had 2 hits including a double to lead the Lions to the win. Grant Young (2 hits, RBI), Brock Wilken (RBI), Drew Lewis (RBI), Joey Pepper (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Samuel Bonick (RBI) also contributed to the offense. Lewis was the winning pitcher in relief of Wilken.
Harvest Christian 12, Woodhull Alwood 6: The Lions completed a 4-game sweep on their Jacksonville trip with this win. Brock Wilken had a 3-run homer to power the Harvest offense while Dayne Frederick added 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI. Grant Young (RBI), winning pitcher Joey Pepper (2 hits, RBI), Dominik Olech (RBI) and Zach Pawelek (2 RBI) also contributed.
CL South 8, IC Catholic 4: Ryan Parquette had 2 hits including a triple and an RBI to lead Crystal Lake South to a season-opening win in this nonconference game. Also helping out the Gators' offense were Brian Fuentes (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Nick Wolski (2B, RBI). Andrew Engelking picked up the win on the mound in relief.
Cary-Grove 3, Ottawa 0: Quinn Priester had 2 RBI and Tyler Pennington drove in a run to lead the Trojans to a nonconference win in their season opener. Mike Eleftheriou, the second of five Cary-Grove pitchers, was credited with the win and Ryan Ignoffo the save.
