Marmion Academy presents Class of 2016
Marmion Academy in Aurora awarded 132 diplomas during a commencement ceremony Friday night.
That included the one awarded posthumously to Stephen Woodcock of St. Charles. His brother, Matthew, accepted both of their diplomas. Woodcock died May 16 from injuries sustained May 13 when he fell off the running board of a moving vehicle driven by a fellow student.
Jack Diederich and Harrison Kearby, both of Aurora, gave the valedictory address. The Marmion Pledge was delivered by Quinn Turcich of Geneva, the student council president. Salutatorian Matthew Talarico of Geneva presented the Faith in Action awards.
All but two of the graduates intend to enroll in college. Two are enlisting in the armed forces. Seventy-seven percent of the students were awarded college scholarships, valued at a total of $19.2 million, according to a spokesman for the Catholic boys high school.
