Another paid holiday at taxpayers' expense

So our state and federal legislators voted themselves another paid holiday at taxpayers' expense. I'm sure the teachers union and other taxpayer-funded organizations will follow suit. The reason being to recognize the end of slavery in Texas. Fine. However, why not remove Columbus Day as a paid holiday as many have deemed him to be racist.
