Girls soccer: Another dynamic showing from Warren
One of the best things about Warren's girls soccer team this spring has been its chemistry.
Among the great combinations of players bonded together are the Chomko siblings - Kaitlyn and Courtney, otherwise known as the "Dynamic Sisters."
And they were certainly dynamite on Tuesday, as the tandem led to the opening goal 10 minutes into the match before Warren went on to defeat host Carmel Catholic 5-0 in a nonconference match in Mundelein.
"It's an assist from the sis," said Kaitlyn, who now has 7 goals and 2 assists in 6 games. "She was holding the ball in the top of the box and I was calling it from behind her. I just touched it once and put it in. It's happened a few other times this year."
Warren has won six straight games to start the season, including a pair of victories over Missouri foes Marquette and Incarnate Word at the Parkway Showcase over the weekend in St. Louis.
"The St. Louis trip did us some good with some good team bonding," Warren coach Ryan McCabe said. "We still have some things to work on, but the girls realize that. The girls still come to practice eager to improve and get better. Their not settling because they've won six games in a row."
The Blue Devils added two more goals in the span of six minutes. Lipscomb-bound Alliyah Parker scored the first of her 3 off a pass from Lindsey Hardiman in the 13th minute. Alissa Ramsden scored in the 16th minute for a 3-0 advantage.
Warren added two others in the second half. Parker knocked one in with an assist form Courtney Chomko in the 40th minute. Then it was Parker again, this time on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Parker now has 6 goals and 6 assists.
Blue Devils keepers Lydia Sundberg and Skylar Reilly shared in the shutout after combining for 2 saves. Sundberg made a PK save in the 71st minute.
Carmel (1-1-1) was playing its first game back from spring break and had a difficult time establishing much momentum against Warren. The Corsairs had limited opportunities in the final third of the field.
"We had spring break legs and (Warren) is a very good team," Carmel coach Ray Krawzak said. "(Warren) played like they've played during spring break and hasn't dropped a beat. We haven't practiced and didn't get a good practice in on Monday. We haven't been outside in a while. (Warren) played very well and nothing really worked for us."
