List missed a legend

A week ago, the Daily Herald sports writers were asked to name the top athletes to come from the suburbs. In my humble opinion, they failed to mention one of the best - Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz.

Jim was a three-sport (football, baseball and basketball) athlete at Fremd High School and was named All-State, All-Conference and the Coaches" Top Defensive Football player his senior year. He was awarded a scholarship to Purdue University, where he was selected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

After college, Jim played for the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys, with whom he made the Pro Bowl Team as a special team player and was a member of the XXX Super Bowl championship team.

Let's recognize his excellence.
