Softball: St. Charles East completes win over St. Charles North

St. Charles East and St. Charles North resumed their matchup from a lightning-shortened game Monday with just two innings left to play.

The Saints led 3-0 heading into Tuesday's completion of the game, but there were plenty of fireworks in those final two innings.

After St. Charles East got the final out in the fifth, the bats came alive with five runs in the top of the sixth. St. Charles North then answered with four runs in its half but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Saints completed a 9-4 victory.

Alex Wooten drove in all three runs Monday and added another Tuesday to finish 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. Maddy Stout (2-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and Chelsea Campagna (2-for-3) both had multiple hits for the Saints (12-6, 3-1 in the DuKane Conference) while Sydney Eby smashed a grand slam and led St. Charles North (4-6, 1-3) going 2-for-3 with 4 RBI. Winning pitcher Katie Arrambide struck out 10.

South Elgin 19, East Aurora 2: Eve Hartmann was bad news for opposing pitchers on Tuesday, driving in 5 on 3 hits to lead South Elgin. Hartmann drove in runs on a triple in the first, a single in the second, and a double in the second. Angelina Guido was the winning pitcher for the Storm (15-5), surrendering 2 runs on 5 hits over 4 innings, striking out eight. Vivian Bahena took the loss for East Aurora, going 4 innings and striking out two.

Aurora Central Catholic 13, Chicago Christian 0: Lizzie Albert collected 4 hits in 4 at-bats to help lead ACC (21-2) to victory. Albert singled in the first, doubled in the second, doubled in the third, and singled in the fourth. Izzy Hernandez earned the win, lasting 4 innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.

Rosary 17, Timothy Christian 1: Kallista Capparelli earned the win for Rosary (6-7), allowing a run on 3 hits over 4 innings, striking out eight. Chloe Saltijeral led the offense for the Royals, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a third inning home run.

Wheaton Warrenville South 3, Batavia 2; Elizabeth Thayer suffered the loss for Batavia (6-11), giving up 3 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings, striking out three. Allison Bahlmann led the Bulldogs with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.

Huntley 14, Hampshire 0: Briana Bower threw a shutout for Huntley. The Red Raiders (14-6) notched 6 runs in the fourth inning. Grace Kutz, Reese Hunkins, Abigail Simandl and Kendra Mitchell each drove in runs during the inning. Shai-Anne Curie took the loss for Whip-Purs (8-8), striking out five.

Crystal Lake Central 8, Dundee-Crown 3: Cady English went 3-for-4 to lead the offense for Dundee-Crown (5-11), but a 7-run fifth inning sealed the win for the Tigers. Caleigh Gertz suffered the loss for the Chargers, lasting 5⅔ innings, allowing 10 hits and 4 runs while striking out one.

CL South 7, McHenry 0: Christina Toniolo threw a gem on the rubber for the Gators (19-0) with a complete game shutout and plenty of support from the offense. CL South secured the victory thanks to 5 runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Emily Sulikowski, Toniolo, Baylee Kassel and Skylar Olsen, all knocking in runs in the inning.

DeKalb 2, Kaneland 1: A walk-off double left Kaneland (17-4) on the wrong side after an even battle for nearly 7 innings. Emilee Erickson took the loss for the Knights, throwing 3⅓ innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out five. McKenna Ryan started the game for Kaneland, lasteing four innings, striking out five and walking one, while allowing no hits and no runs.

Jacobs 8, Cary-Grove 5: Cary-Grove (7-7) got home runs from Jill Deering and Frankie Cruz, but it was not enough to topple Jacobs. Delaney Garden went the distance for the Golden Eagles (9-5), allowing 10 hits and 5 runs while striking out four and walking one. Sarah Lynch and Emily Pena each collected 2 hits to lead the offense for the Golden Eagles.

Glenbard South 8, Streamwood 0: The Sabres (8-5) could not find the offense, managing just 2 hits in the loss. Taylyr Crocilla got the call for Streamwood, allowing 4 hits and a run over 4 innings, striking out four.

West Chicago 10, Larkin 9: In a high scoring affair, the Royals (4-10) found themselves on the losing end of a battle of the hot bats. Brynne Farnsworth suffered the loss for Larkin, allowing 10 runs over 6 innings, while striking out three and walking four. Ashley Miller led the offense for the Royals with 3 hits, including a home run, while Katie Turner and Audriana Escobar each added a double.
