Wrong decision on affordable housing
We are dismayed (but not totally surprised) by the actions of the Arlington Heights village board on Monday, Nov. 20, to gut the spirit and intent of the Housing Ordinance.
And only one trustee voted in favor of keeping the original ordinance intact.
It would appear that the village only gives lip service to the concept of affordable housing. It does not favor economic diversity among its residents.
People can shop, dine, work, and enjoy cultural events, but ought to live elsewhere if they do not earn enough money. If there is to be any affordable housing it will be segregated and the residents treated as second class citizens.
This is not the hallmark of a Village of Friendly Neighbors. We encourage the VAH Board to reverse this shortsighted and discriminatory decision.
