South Bend fatal shooting suspect fires at officer, escapes
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a northern Indiana man suspected of fatally shooting a woman shot at a police officer before escaping.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says a 23-year-old man was being sought in connection with the shooting Sunday morning of 40-year-old Tamara Agnew at a South Bend apartment complex.
Prosecutors say that as a police officer arrived on the scene, the suspect was fleeing in a SUV and fired at the officer, and the officer returned fire. It wasn't clear if the suspect was wounded. No officers were struck.
Agnew was found in an apartment suffering from three gunshot wounds.
The suspect remained at large later Sunday.
