Lake County reducing fee for well water testing

The Lake County Health Department is offering reduced cost well water testing for homeowners who use wells as their primary drinking water source.

Between March 11 and March 22, the $18 fee for testing for bacteria and nitrates will be reduced to $12. Sterile test bottles and sampling instructions are available at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville, health department office, 3010 Grand Ave., and 18 township or municipal offices.

Residents also can pay $59 to have a staff member collect the sample, inspect the well, and provide the lab analysis for bacteria and nitrates. About 90,000 Lake County residents rely on groundwater to supply their private wells.
