Flood advisory continues on Des Plaines River
A flood advisory is continuing for the Des Plaines River near Des Plaines as authorities said the river is expected to rise quickly due to rain accumulation in recent days.
The advisory on the river runs until Sunday morning, with the rivers expected to crest just shy of flood stage Thursday afternoon, officials are reporting on weather.gov.
Flood stage on the Des Plaines River is 15 feet, and the water is expected to reach 14.9 feet. Moderate flooding is at 18 feet, while major flooding is at 19 feet, authorities say.
Officials said the water level rose above flood action stage Wednesday morning.
The weather forecast calls for rain throughout the day Wednesday, potentially changing to snow late Wednesday night and into Thursday. Temperatures are expected to top out at 49 degrees today, before falling to 37 degrees overnight.
