Softball: Hersey wins again in MSL East
Hersey's softball team won its ninth straight game in the Mid-Suburban East by topping visiting Rolling Meadows 8-3 on Monday.
Senior Brianna Luciano threw a 6-hitter with 6 strikeouts for the Huskies (15-4, 9-3).
Multiple hitters for the Huskies were Luciano (2-for-4, 2B), Natalia Kubsik (2-for-3, 2B), Savannah Gazda (2-for-3, 2B), Sarah Bailitz (2-for-3, 2B) and Makayla Tsagalis.
Emily Schmidt went 3-for-3 for the Mustangs (12-9, 5-6).
Barrington 23, Hoffman Estates 0 (4 inn): Senior Tori Meyer (1-0) earned the win by tossing three innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out five for the visiting Fillies.
Leyden Atlas (4-for-4, HR, 3 RBI), 4 runs), Meyer (4-for-4, RBI), Samantha Murphy (3-for-4, 2B, 3B, 5 RBI), Kendall Peterson (2-for-2, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Brynn Nevers (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and Ellie Wintringer (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led the Fillies. Teammate Lily Weidler also doubled.
The Fillies (20-3, 11-1) registered their 27th consecutive season of 20 or more wins.
Elk Grove 11, Wheeling 0: Junior Lauren Clausen (12-3), who had a triple, tossed a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Grenadiers improved to 19-5 and 6-4.
Olivia Masnica and Katia Pendowski (double) each had 2 hits for EG while AJ Trausch and Brooke Baldassarre each had doubles.
Lexi Blumka had the hit for the host Wildcats (3-14, 1-11).
