9½ years in prison for Carpentersville sex assault of child

A Carpentersville man has been sentenced to 9½ years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl he knew in 2014.

Michael A. Martinez, 30, of the 100 block of Green Street, was convicted in December 2018 of predatory criminal sexual assault, a felony that carries a six- to 30-year prison term.

Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler convicted Martinez in a bench trial and sentenced Martinez on Friday, according to prosecutors and court records.

According to prosecutors, Martinez sexually assaulted a child he knew was under 13 at the time from April 2014 through June 2014.

Under state law, Martinez must serve 85 percent of his sentence, which is a little more than eight years.

Martinez gets credit for 631 days served at the Kane County jail while the case was pending and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
