Dogs rule, and jump, in Libertyville
One of the highlights of Libertyville's 10th annual Dog Days of Summer is the DockDogs Big Air dog jumping competition at Cook Park.
The competition includes local and nationally ranked dogs. The pooches run down a 40-foot dock and try to jump the farthest into a 27,000-gallon pool of water in the middle of Church Street.
Saturday's opening to the competition included a vendor fair, and dog training and police dog demonstrations.
Sunday's competition is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day is to include a pet blessing at noon and a pet costume parade at 12:30 p.m. The Big Air finals start at 4 p.m. at 300 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Funds raised during the festivities go to the pet food pantry at Our House of Hope Rescue in Libertyville, as well as other local charities, especially those that help animals.
