Elk Grove sharp in season opener

Elk Grove got off to an impressive start in its boys water polo opener, topping Hoffman Estates 18-1 on Tuesday in a Mid-Suburban League divisional crossover.

Senior David Dragne led the way for the Grens with 5 goals, while Adam Doruff and Bart Strozik had 3 apiece.

Prospect 13, Schaumburg 11: Isaac Ginnodo led the Knights with 6 goals and Alex Morikado had 3 to help Prospect prevail in its season opener.

Tyler Gustafson paced the Saxons with 6 goals, Matt Soltau had 3 and goalie Edin Latic stopped 10 shots.

Neuqua Valley 10, Barrington 9: The host Broncos delivered a strong effort against a team picked in the state's top 10 by illpolo.com before coming up a goal short in a nonconference opener for both teams.

Junior 2-meter set John Fischer led the defending Mid-Suburban League champs with 6 goals, and Mitch Gavars had 2.

Joey Dalesandro paced Neuqua Valley, ranked No. 9 by illpolo.com in the preseason, with 6 goals.

Buffalo Grove 12, Latin 3: Ryan Lawson paced the Bison offense with 4 goals in a nonconference season-opening victory.
