100 Indiana troopers aiding Republican convention security

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - About 100 Indiana State Police troopers are heading to Cleveland to assist with security for next week's Republican National Convention.

Officials in Cleveland have been preparing for the potential of violent clashes between Donald Trump supporters and opponents of the GOP candidate. They plan to have hundreds of jail cells available to house arrested protesters.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter tells WRTV (http://bit.ly/29NbC8h ) that the federal government and convention organizers will be paying for the cost of the assisting troopers. The Indiana agency has about 800 troopers.

The Indiana troopers will be among thousands of officers from police departments across the country being brought in to help with security.
