Softball: Crystal Lake South avenges only loss
Crystal Lake South has only lost one game and the Gators avenged that defeat on Friday with an 11-6 win over Jacobs.
The Gators fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first but rallied behind Emily Sulikowski, who went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI and a home run.
Kyra Swartz led Crystal Lake South (25-1, 12-1) with 3 hits including a double. She scored two runs and drove in one.
Brooke Kuffel, Christina Toniolo and Evelyn Smith all had 2 hits.
Toniolo was the winning pitcher, striking out five in a complete game.
Jacobs (13-10, 7-7) defeated the Gators 6-2 on April 25. Sarah Lynch, who took the loss, led the Golden Eagles Friday going 4-for-4 with 2 runs. Savannah Svedman drove in two runs.
With the win, Crystal Lake South stayed two games ahead of Huntley (23-7, 10-3) in the Fox Valley Conference race with just three games to play. The Gators play at Huntley next Tuesday and also have FVC games remaining against Hampshire and Dundee-Crown.
Geneva 3, St. Charles North 1: The Vikings only had 4 hits but it was enough to pull out a DuKane Conference win.
Sam Keller homered for Geneva and Shelly Deisz earned the win.
Kaneland 12, DeKalb 2: Kaneland scored 8 runs in the first inning Friday.
The Knights (24-6) made the most of their 7 hits. Danyelle Borysiewicz hit a grand slam to highlight their attack.
Grace Algrim got the start for the Knights. She pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two and walking none.
Wheatley led Kaneland with 2 hits. Rose Roach led the Knights with two of their six stolen bases.
Aurora Central Catholic 11, Burlington Central 1: Dani Brown pitched the Chargers to a nonconference victory with 14 strikeouts. She also homered and drove in 3 runs.
Lizzie Albert (3-for-5, 3 RBI), Alheli Velazquez (2-3, 2 runs), Izzy Hernandez (2-5, 2 RBI), Kaitlyn Carlson (2-4, 3 RBI) and Sammy Martinez (2-4) all had multiple hits for ACC (25-5).
Reili Gardner led the Rockets (14-7) with 2 of their 4 hits.
South Elgin 4, Glenbard South 1: The Storm (20-6) reached 20 victories with an Upstate Eight Conference win over the same team who beat them Monday.
Sidney Strama pitched a complete game, allowing 5 hits and striking out four.
Casey Brennan had 2 of the Storm's 5 hits including a home run. She scored two runs and drove in one.
Sammy Jimenez and Cara Cruthers also had RBI for South Elgin.
