Wrong anthem played for Uruguay before Copa America match

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Oops.

The national anthem of Chile was mistakenly played instead of the one for Uruguay prior to the Copa America opening-round match between Uruguay and Mexico on Sunday night.

The Uruguayan players stood silently on the University of Phoenix Stadium, many with blank stares, while the wrong anthem was played.

In a statement, Copa America said the mistake was "a human error."

"We sincerely apologize to the Uruguayan Federation, the Uruguay National Team, to the people of Uruguay and to the fans for this mistake," the statement read. "We will work with all parties involved to ensure such an error does not occur again.'
