College hosting police forum on responding to active shooter
GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - A college in Illinois plans to host a community meeting on how to respond to an active shooter.
The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/1OXDSfn) Carl Sandburg College has invited Galesburg Police to make a presentation and answer questions.
The free forum is planned for Wednesday at the campus student center in Galesburg. Such training has been common at schools, colleges and businesses, but more sessions for the general public are being held around the country to help people confront fears of mass violence.
Kyle Cecil of Sandburg College says the forum will give the public a chance to speak with police officers.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security advises attempting to escape, hiding out if that's not possible and, as a last resort, fighting back to disrupt or incapacitate the attacker.
