Aurora Methodist pastor opens 'Fake News' sermon series

The Rev. Derek Rogers, pastor at Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora, says the Bible contains some untruths.

On Sunday he opened his January sermon series, "Fake News: Things the Bible Doesn't Really Say." His first of four sermons was themed "Everything happens for a reason."

The series continues with:

Jan. 13: God helps those who help themselves.

Jan. 20: God won't give you more than you can handle.

Jan. 27: Do good and God will bless you.

The public is invited to 10 a.m. worship at Aurora Christian School, 2255 Sullivan Road. Parking and refreshments are free.

The Rev. Rogers said, "There are many things we believe the Bible says that aren't actually true. Examples are, 'everything happens for a reason' and 'God won't give you more than you can handle.'

"Instead of the good news, they are actually fake news. Join us for this sermon series where we'll examine some common misunderstandings and cliches of scripture. Learn more about what the Bible actually does say." Call (630) 239-2321 for more information
