Man charged in Prospect Heights beating
A 29-year-old Chicago man on parole for a 2011 burglary conviction was held on $225,000 bail yesterday on home invasion charges in Prospect Heights. Steven Helminski, who has a DUI case pending, pushed his way into his former girlfriend's Prospect Heights apartment and struck her multiple times until a neighbor, alerted by the woman's screams, intervened and held him until police arrived, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Mennie. Sunset Foods bagger falls short in Las Vegas final
Jorge Mejia remains a bagging champion in the eyes of his Sunset Foods colleagues, despite finishing out of the money Monday night in Las Vegas. Mejia, who works at Sunset Foods in Lake Forest, didn't make it out of a preliminary round to reach the final five in the National Grocers Association Best Bagger contest hosted by Food Network's Duff Goldman at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. Cubs have depth behind the plate
