Fremd High School showed its appreciation to the girls basketball team Monday - honoring the hard work this season that led to the squad's second straight second-place finish in the state tournament. Wheaton council OKs extra $40,000 for downtown group

Wheaton council members agreed with a 4-2 vote last night to provide the Downtown Wheaton Association with $40,000 in supplemental funding for the 2016-17 fiscal year. Arlington Heights likes 16-apartment plan for people with disabilities

It may be the same piece of land as the doomed Boeger Place project, but the plan and the initial response from the Arlington Heights village board last night were vastly different. UP Development LLC presented a plan for a 16-unit apartment building called Heart's Place, which would house residents with disabilities, to the village board and was met with mostly positive feedback. Roselle cops go viral with photos of tree stuck in car's grille

Roselle police were looking for an attention-grabbing story to lure viewers to their recently relaunched Facebook page. Deputy Chief Roman Tarchala said photos of a Jan. 23 DUI arrest, in which a driver struck and uprooted a 15-foot-tall tree that became lodged in her car's grille, seemed like the perfect post for the new page to warn about the dangers of drinking and driving. Man arrested after standoff in Waukegan

One person is in custody after an armed standoff ended peacefully early yesterday in Waukegan, authorities said. Police Cmdr. Joe Florip said the standoff ended after a man was found hiding in the attic of a house on the 1700 block of Berwick Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. Police are not releasing the identity of the man because charges have not been filed, Florip said.
