I have been very pro-active in village matters to date and attend most meetings. I am not easily intimidated. I will ask the questions others are afraid to and not form an opinion until I feel satisfied with the answers. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Because of no home rule I believe we are receiving the maximum sales tax as allowed by the state. Everyone pays too much in property taxes. Tax revenue is however essential to the survival of a community. Commercial tax revenue is great but any growth commercial or residential must be sought after cautiously and in a well planned manner so as not to create a situation where the school and infrastructure demands exceed the tax obligation a middle class family can comfortably afford.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?I think both the Fire and Police departments do an excellent job. Being a victim of a house fire 5 years ago I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the Rutland township department. It is my understanding they operate in the black. The police department does an excellent job also on a limited budget. I am concerned however that with the residential expansion that is planned, without considering a substantial increase in police funding soon, the safety and well being of the community could be jeopardized.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?It doesn't seem to me that the village has an over abundance of surplus funds. Any spending at all should be done with an approach of spend a buck to save or make a buck. Maintenance and upkeep should be prioritized so as not to get too far behind the eight ball down the road when any surplus revenues will be needed to cover the additional infrastructure costs due to the proposed residential expansion. What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Though not an original idea but as a true show of transparency and a surefire way for the board and it's leadership to gain the respect and confidence of the public, I will push to have all public village meetings videotaped and made available for viewing on the village website. This would greatly increase citizen interest and involvement. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I think the village could be run with a little more professionalism and to accountability. I don't believe any outside services sought after by the village should be done on a single or no-bid process with tax-payer dollars. Further, I don't think it is in the best interest of the village to have professional relationships with outside contractors who at the same time are aiding and advising private individuals with their own village dealings. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Bernie SandersWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?honesty is the best policyIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would further my education. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?History. The more one studies history, the closer he comes to being able to tell the future. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Never give up.
