Cross country: Aurora CC's Fioresi, Harvest Christian's Pollard sectional champs
Aurora Central Catholic senior Abby Fioresi was the individual champion Saturday at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy girls cross country sectional.
Fioresi ran the course in a time of 18:10 to advance to next week's state finals at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
Rosary advanced out of the Wheaton Academy sectional as a team by finishing fourth with 126 points. Lemont won the team championship with 68 points.
Scoring for Rosary were Claire Hengesbaugh (3rd), Megan Ronzone (12th), Hannah Regan (28th) and Brooke Delehanty (28th).
Girls at Oregon: Harvest Christian finished second at the Class 1A Oregon sectional with 136 points. Richmond-Burton won with 72. Harvest's Nygia Pollard won the race in a time of 19:16. Also scoring for the Lions were Alysaa Iverson, Kaelie Sjodin and Rachel Higbee.
Girls at Waukegan: Caitlin Bruzzini of Crystal Lake South finished fifth and Dundee-Crown's Sylvia Waz 14th to advance to the Class 3A state finals.
Girls at Belvidere: Kaneland finished fourth as a team to advance to the Class 2A state meet. Belvidere North, Vernon Hills and Crystal Lake Central were the top three teams. Freshman Rachel Richtman led Kaneland with a seventh-place finish. Grace Purcell (31st), Andrea Wells (40th) and Becca Richtman (47th) also scored for the Knights. Burlington Central senior Megan Safranski was fifth and qualified as an individual as did Hampshire's Sophia Oury, who finished 14th.
Girls at Lisle: St. Edward freshman Madeline Ellsworth finished 15th to qualify for the Class 1A state finals.
Boys at Belvidere: Kaneland's Matthew Richtman finished third in a time of 15:04 to advance to the Class 2A state meet. Hampshire qualified Jacob Oury (7th) and Will Matushek (13th).
Boys at Oregon: Harvest Christian won the team title at the Class 1A Oregon sectional with 74 points. Scoring for the Lions were Michael Sisko, Andrew Dobrescu, Payton Kasper and Mark Davila.
Boys at Waukegan: Jack Becker of Crystal Lake South finished fifth and Anthony Hurgoi of Dundee-Crown ninth to advance to the Class 3A state meet.
