St. Charles N. student hurt after falling from car

A St. Charles North High School student was seriously injured after apparently falling from the back of a moving vehicle, police said.

St. Charles police and fire were called just before 5 p.m. Saturday to the 4100 block of Royal Fox Drive for an accident involving injures, police said in a news release.

A 2011 Toyota Camry being driven by a 16-year-old boy was stopped in front of a house when another 16-year-old friend jumped on the trunk of the car. The driver began to pull away with the boy on the trunk.

The car pulled out of view of the witness, who then heard yelling and came out of the garage to see the boy injured after hitting his head off the pavement.

Police said the accident is a result of horseplay; the case is still under investigation as they attempt to determine if the injured boy fell from the vehicle or jumped and lost his balance.

There's no indication that excessive speed or acceleration played a part in the injury, police said, and no citations have been issued.

The boy was taken to Delnor Hospital and later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. His condition is not known.
