Glenbard offers strategies for school success
Parents can pick up some tips for helping students be better organized during a seminar this week at Glenbard South High School.
"Strategies for Improving Executive Function Skills to Plan, Organize and Self-Monitor for School Success" will be presented by Sarah Ward, co-director of Cognitive Connections in Massachusetts.
Part of the Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families, the program is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the school, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn.
Students with executive function deficits have problems completing homework, organizing materials and staying on task. The ability to manage time and work independently are skills students need every day.
Ward will provide parents, students and educators with a better understanding of executive functioning deficits and the tools to cope with them effectively.
The presentation will focus on simple techniques that can be used to help students strengthen their learning skills, including:
• Close the homework circle by supporting students in recording, bringing home, completing and returning assignments.
• Create a positive and productive environment for homework completion.
• Learn to organize and process information for assignments, long-term projects and study skills.
