Elgin Community College Board appoints trustee to fill vacancy

The Elgin Community College Board recently appointed alum Ryan Weiss to fill the trustee seat vacated by Angela Holmes, who resigned Nov. 14.

Candidates were interviewed by the ECC board during a special meeting on Dec. 6.

"We had a great pool of applicants," said Jeffrey Meyer, ECC board chairman. "It was not an easy decision. What made Mr. Weiss stand out was his prior involvement as a student trustee and then as an alum. We look forward to the knowledge and experience he will bring to the board."

Weiss, of Elgin, was sworn in on Dec. 12 and will serve until the next consolidated election on April 2, 2019.

Weiss is president of Seam Strategies, Inc. of Elgin, a private equity and consulting business with experience in branding, sales and operations for businesses in the paper, packaging, food service, automotive and industrial chemicals industries. He previously worked in international business development and operations-related roles at Henkel, a global manufacturer of adhesive technologies, beauty care, and laundry and home care.

Weiss has a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Kansas and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He also earned an associate degree from ECC and served as a student board member during the 1996-97 academic year. He has been involved in the ECC Alumni Advisory Committee since returning to the Elgin area in 2016.
