Hub Group awarded sixth EPA SmartWay Excellence Award

Hub Group, a multi-modal supply chain solutions provider, has been honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the sixth time with a SmartWay Excellence Award.

SmartWay Partners are recognized with the award for displaying excellence in their mission to build environmentally friendly and energy efficient supply chains.

"A truly effective sustainability initiative requires a level of dedication that goes beyond day-to-day accomplishments," said David Yeager, CEO and chairman of Hub Group based in Oak Brook. "That focus on the long-term view has been at the heart of our environmental initiatives for years, as we've strived to lead the industry to a truly sustainable future. Our commitment to the SmartWay mission is a natural extension of that focus, and we're delighted to receive this award for the sixth time in recognition of those efforts."

SmartWay is a voluntary and cost-free program that supports companies' initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from freight supply chain transportation activities. SmartWay implements its goals to lower freight carbon footprints by conducting analysis and research of freight impacts, engaging with freight experts, anticipating and responding to trends, developing strategic resources and communication strategies and serving as an international model. International collaborations exist in Mexico, Europe, Latin America, China and other Asian nations.

"Today, EPA is honoring top-performing SmartWay Carrier Partners with this year's 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award, for their leadership in moving more goods with less fuel," said Bill Wehrum, EPA's assistant administrator of the office of air and radiation. "These companies inspire others in the freight sector to invest in innovative technologies and business practices that save fuel, while reducing costs and protecting the environment."
