Baseball: Moreno's walk off grand slam lifts Bartlett past Batavia

Martin Moreno hit a walk off grand slam home run to cap a 7-run seventh inning as Bartlett defeated Batavia 7-6 Saturday in Upstate Eight Conference baseball action.

Frank Novello had 2 hits including a double for the Hawks (15-12, 10-8). David Jaske added 2 hits while Eric Johansen, Ben Fisher and Joey Allen each had RBI.

Ryan Sharko was the winning pitcher in relief.

Tyler Munoz had a big day at the plate for Batavia with 4 hits including a double and 4 RBI. Brent Norkus homered for the Bulldogs (7-15, 4-12) while Quinn O'Brien added an RBI.

Elgin 11, West Chicago 1: The Maroons (5-23, 3-18) pounded out 14 hits in winning this UEC game. JC Fortmann led the way with 3 hits and 2 RBI while Cameron Kendall (2 hits, 3 RBI), Kyle Coates (2 RBI), Jack Sitter (2 hits, 2 RBI), RJ Bartlett (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Cameron Jackson (2 hits, 2B) and Carlos Esparza (2 hits) also contributed. Coates picked up the win, allowing 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks in 5 innings of work.

South Elgin 11, St. Charles East 4: Bryant Diel (2B, 2 RBI), Cameron Kovanda, Kevin Barry (2B), Adam Walker (2 RBI) and Patrick Keaty (2B) each had 2 hits to lead South Elgin (16-4, 14-2) to a UEC win. Nate Gomez went 4 innings and allowed 5 hits to earn the win on the mound. He also had 2 RBI. Kyle Tiltges, Cole Conn, Thomas Adams (RBI) and Pat Griffin (2 RBI) had 2 hits each for SCE (20-8, 16-4).

St. Charles North 11, West Aurora 1: Zach Mettetal (2 RBI) and Sean Krueger each hit home runs as the North Stars (25-4, 19-1) won this UEC contest. Also producing for SCN were Anthony Delisi (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Connor Bizik (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Tyler Mettetal (2B) and Steve Hamer (2B, RBI). Bennett Christiansen was the winning pitcher. West Aurora slipped to 8-20, 7-12 with the loss.

Larkin 9, East Aurora 5: Michael Rodriguez (RBI) and Gunnar Boley (3 hits, 3 RBI) had 2 doubles each to lead Larkin (12-13, 8-11) to a UEC win. Winning pitcher David Bello added 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Royals while Jeff Althamar had a double.

Jacobs 4, McHenry 3: Daniel Klein (2 hits, 3 RBI) drove in Bryce Vincent with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Jacobs (16-15, 8-12) to this Fox Valley Conference win. Liam Oreskovich added a double for the Golden Eagles.

Cary-Grove 16, Hampshire 5: Ben Levicki (2 RBI), Tommy Neilson (2 RBI) and winning pitcher Matt McCumber (2 RBI) each hit home runs for Cary-Grove (21-7, 16-6) in its FVC win. Collin Walsh had 3 hits with a triple and an RBI, Ryan Ignoffo added 3 hits with 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Justin Trausch had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Trojans. Tyler Pennington added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI, Noah Schrader had a home run for Hampshire (8-22-1, 3-17).

Marmion 7, Loyola 4: Bobby Pierce had a double, home run and 3 RBI while winning pitcher Collin Gibson added 2 hits with a double to lead Marmion (16-15) to a Chicago Catholic League win. Jack Liesen and Brandon McPherson (RBI) added a double each for the Cadets.

Burlington Central splits: The Rockets traveled to the LaSalle-Peru tournament where they lost to Morris 2-1 and beat Streator 5-1. In the loss to Morris, Clay Milas and Brandon Van Buren (RBI) had 2 hits each for BC. Milas was the losing pitcher going 6 innings and allowing 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks. In the win over Streator, David Lauber hit a home run for the Rockets (22-9) while Josh Noeska had 2 hits, Clay Milas a double and James Fay a double and an RBI. Kyle Hresil picked up the win allowing hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in 5 innings.

Dundee-Crown 8, Hersey 7: Erik Hedmark had 3 hits with an RBI and Jack Waldron added 2 hits with a double to lead D-C (12-15) to a nonconference win. Zach Hahn added a double and 3 RBI for the Chargers and Jonathan Mays drove in 2 runs. Conor Ryan was the winning pitcher.

Streamwood 9, Schaumburg 8: Adam Sojda's 2-run homer in the top of the seventh inning lifted the Sabres (13-13) to a nonconference win. Jesse Rico (2 hits, 2B), Jose Aguilar (2B, RBI), winning pitcher Michael Pawilkowski (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and A.J. Reyna (3B, RBI) also contributed.

Kaneland 5, Plainfield Central 0: Robbie Dudzinski threw a 4-hit shutout with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks to lead Kaneland (16-13) to this nonconference win. He also had 2 hits with a double while Luke Calabrese added 2 hits and 2 RBI and Angel Acevedo had a double.

Harvest Christian 9, South Beloit 0: Dayne Frederick had 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Dylan Lockwood added 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI as Harvest Christian (25-5, 14-2) won in the Northeast Athletic Conference. Drew Lewis went 3 innings and allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Rockford East 13, St. Edward 3: Daniel Falco had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for St. Edward (4-22) in its nonconference loss.

Aurora Christian 12, Indian Creek 5: At the Hinckley-Big Rock tournament, Eric Hernandez (2B), MJ Stavola (2B, 2 RBI) and Tanner Dissell (2B, 2 RBI) each had 2 hits for Aurora Christian (20-8-1). Jake Kuntzendorf also drove in 2 runs for the Eagles.

ACC 13, Hinckley-Big Rock 1: Johnny Belskis (2B, 3 RBI), Michael Bieterman (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Jack Gehrke (2 RBI) led Aurora Central (19-8) to a win at the H-BR tournament. John Cosgrave went 4 innings and allowed 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win.
